ADIMS

ADIMS (AIS Dynamic Information Management System) is a system for managing NOTAM data. It is based on a commercial software product called ANAIS produced by Thales Information Systems of France.

ANAIS includes the facility to validate and enter NOTAM data, to query the database and to delete database records when they are no longer required. ANAIS is designed to comply with the requirements of ICAO Annexe 15 (Aeronautical Information Services) and this governs the data structure that is used.

ANAIS includes a core database of NOTAM with a number of interfaces. This site is concerned with the Web Interface which is the means by which users query the core database.

ANAIS also has capabilities in the areas of Flight Plan submission and Weather Briefing. These are not used in the UK implementation but have affected the current design of the web interface. For example the field labelled "Briefing Id" is ultimately meant to hold the Call Sign for a Flight Plan and the Route field is required to comply with current ICAO Flight Plan Rules

When we use the AIS web site to get a briefing we are using the web interface of ANAIS, known as AES (Aeronautical E-Services), hence the appearance of "aes" in the URL .

ANAIS is used in a number of countries, including Germany, Austria, Croatia, Estonia, Hong Kong, and Chile, while the South African and Moroccan AIS systems are currently under implementation.

It is possible for you to register on and use the German ANAIS system. If you do so, you will see that the area briefing for the London FIR (EGTT) contains considerably less data than that provided by the UK AIS site.

Having got through that lot, let's have a look at the UK AIS website, what is available, and what the problems are. Click here to continue.
